MR.P here: I love how my wife saves me so much money with these awesome design ideas on the cheap! I am very proud of her too for the mentions she is getting on other blogs. I gotta tell ya, this must be for the females what fantasy football is for the males! I'm learning more and more about this whole design blog world. Keep helping each other out, that's the cool part. Anyways, I guess the story behind the story is that now my wife has turned most of the garage red thanks to all the spraypaint! It's cool, we were going to repaint it anyway and it's much cheaper than building her a studio!!!

After much consideration and advice from Shanty2Chic I decided to try spray painting my chairs again. And you know what? I am soo glad I listened to those smart girls!
I started out my night (after work) by running to Hobby Lobby with MR.P. He's so sweet to go with me:) We got the American Accents Colonial Red spray paint by Rustoleum (along with a few other colors for more projects). This stuff is great because it doesn't run. Definitely a lifesaver!
I headed out to the garage, put my spot line on so I wouldn't miss any spots, laid down some old bead board (I feel so fancy saying I spray paint on bead board...hahaha), and started sanding the chairs down. They had been white washed, so it was a little though to tell when I had sanded enough. I'm not very patient so I didn't sand for too long. Just enough ;) Then I went to town spray painting. That's the fun part. Usually I am a little nervous, but Colonial Red is the perfect color. So I just enjoyed it. Although, my hands are still a little shaky today from all the hard work. Thankfully I am training a girl at work today so she's been doing all the work;) No writing for me today!
Here are the Chairs Before and After right next to each other!
I think the crisp Colonial Red is much better compared to the other stuff I used (the bottle said red, but it came out pink...not a good color for our house).
I love how the red contrasts with the ticking stripe drapes. They aren't the exact same red, which I am fine with. Things can't be too matchy.
So I definitely recomend spray painting if you can. It definitely makes the project faster for us Instant Gratification people. Plus, you won't have paint brush strokes. It's also a much smoother finish.
Our next project to tackle is the table, which is also white washed. We are thinking of doing the legs white, then refinishing the table top. Any good ideas?

Just found your blog and have a question. Did you replace the seat on the chairs, and if so, how? I have several of the same chairs, but haven't tackled the seat issue so they have no seat at the time.
thanks,
olive
Huge difference. I'm glad you didn't give up - they look perfect with the seats! Great job.
LOVE the red chairs! Have you invested in one of those spray paint aerosol triggers? It's a little gadget that attaches to the top of any spray paint can and has a "trigger" to pull instead of pushing down on that spray paint nozzle and getting paint all over your finger! IT IS AWESOME! I think they are $3 at Home Depot. Just thought I'd share a tip with you. :)
They look awesome! I agree with you about matchy-matchy...
Thanks for the spray paint nozzle tip! I'll definitely look into that for the next project:)
@Oliveoyl64 those are acually the original chair seats. I'll do a little research on if you can redo them or find new ones. Thanks for stopping by:) Iove answering questions!
LOVE that color red! You did an AWESOME job! Glad you stuck with it. Now ENJOY them!
Great work! They look amazing.
That red looks great on your chairs! Excellent Job!
I was going to suggest the trigger thingy too. I get shaky arms when I'm doing something for a long period of time (i.e. trimming pushes, spray painting), so that little item makes that task easier. Love the way your chairs came out and your hubby's little edit at the top ~ he's a sweetie!
I'm going to check out the rest of your blog now, since I came over from Kimba's blog party.
They look great! I'm a recent convert to spray painting, and I'm a bit chicken--I've stuck with off-white and black so far. But now I'm excited to try other colors! Love how they turned out!
YEAH!! I LOVE how they turned out:) You did awesome... Don't they make you smile now when you look at them?? Way to go!
Hi Beth! Your chairs look awesome!!!! I can't wait to see your table!!!!!! ~ Ashley
Thanks for all the encouragement ladies! It really does help when stepping outside my comfort zone. I distressed them last night! I'll share soon:)
