It's great having wise people in my life!

Last night I went to spend some time with my old discipleship group leader.  She is a wealth of knowledge a wisdom!  She told me to be a wise woman and learn from OTHER people's mistakes.   Then she gave me this piece of info.  "Don't live right now as if your life hasn't started...life doesn't start when you have kids.  It has already started!!!  Take advantage of this time alone with your husband and live life to the fullest!"

I am going to listen to her.  MR.P and I want to take some vacations.  Any tips on some less expensive places to go?

Savannah is great as is Washington D.C, where my hubby and I want to go. The airfare is usually cheap and almost everything to do there is free :)

Southwest airlines has great direct flights... check the cities events before you go because hotel's rates will skyrocket before the festivities! I love Austin and Nashville!

Drive over to the Smokies. We're planning a weekend away there right now, near Gatlinburg- lots to see & do, and super relaxing :)

Amen sister! I mean having kids is great but there is a lot you can't do once you have kids. Enjoy this special time in your lives...vacations and even wknd getaways are GREAT ideas and vacations are VERY different once kids are in the picture :). We find great deals on vrbo.com anytime we want to go somewhere. And a lot of the owners will negotiate their rates with you. I also enjoy Calloway Gardens for a wknd escape (hiking, flowers, biking, fishing) and they have great deals right now.

Wherever you go, try checking out craigslist for local houses/condos to rent rather than staying in a hotel. My roommates and I found great places to stay on craigslist on our trips to Savannah and Nashville. It helps give you a better sense of the area itself, rather than just touristy stuff. Plus you end up with a kitchen and extra space so you can cook if you want instead of going out to eat for every meal!

Brian and I just got back from the Grand Hotel in Fairhope, AL. It is beautiful! They offer everything from free bike rentals, to High Tea at 4 each day, to nice dinners and dancing to live music. The hotel is on Pointe Clear and is sitting on the bay- gorgeous sunsets. Fairhope has adorable boutiques that are SO fun walk through and shop. It's about 45 min from Gulf Shores and 30 from Foley, which has outlet malls.

I am obviously obsessed. You should check it out! There are picks from our trip on my blog.

We have found great vacation deals on Costco.com. I'm not sure if you need a membership, but someone told us you do not (we have yet to go through with one on a grad student salary!) We don't gamble but would love to see Las Vegas and found tickets at Costco for a little over $300 per person, round trip, hotel included.
