Family Values

Ephesians 1:16-19 "I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.  I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.  I pray also that they eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may see the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for those who believe.  That power is like the working of his mighty strength."

MR.P and I went on a date a few months ago to Brio. We were discussing 4 family values we wanted for our family now and for the future. I have to admit, it was slightly stressful trying to think of these values. Our main question to ourselves was this..."Is this something we just want to teach our children or is it BIG enough that we would put this on our wall?" (you know, like frame it) So after discussing this during our date, plus a more days we came up with these.

1.) Faith - To always remember what Jesus did on the Cross for our sins. We want to teach our children the gospel. We will fail everyday, but we pray that we can teach them about the Great God we serve and hope they will accept him as their personal savior.

2.) Stewardship - We hope to teach our children to handle their money responsibly as well as being generous with it.

3.) Authenticity - To be real with people. I thought this was something I was really good at until a few weeks ago. MR.P is really good at this so I will just follow his lead :)

4.) Hospitality - We love hosting friends and family at our house. We hope to be able to instill that into our family and future children's lives.
What are your families core values??  I'd love to hear them :)

Such a neat post. That is one of my favorite verses, too!

The hubs and I have had a similar discussion and can honestly say that our list is alot like yours. We also want to instill generousity. I was always taught that there are 2 types of people in this world: Givers and Takers; and that I should try my darndest to become a Giver.

See, I knew we'd be friends! Have a lovely weekend!

Great post Beth! The hubs and I haven't formally sat down and talked about a list per se but i think our list would be very similar to yours.

It is so wonderful that you are having these conversations now before you have kiddos. i am impressed. :)

Beth- My husband and I have been having a similar conversation over the past few months. Though we haven't narrowed it down to four, our comments and thoughts on particular traits and passions we want to reinforce are very similar. Though hospitality is something we both feel strongly about, it was not something I considered instilling in my children. Thanks for bringing it to my mind! :)

After almost 24 years of marriage, 6 kids and 2 kid-in-laws (no grandbabies yet!) I can say that your 4 core values are right on. I'd only add a huge dose of humility, especially in front of your spouse AND in front of kidlets. I can't tell you how many times my grown kids tell me that our honesty and vulnerability was what set us apart as parents compared to their peers.
I left you an award on my bloggy, too!
